Shankaracharya Temple
The Shankaracharya Temple historical background that dates back to 200 BC. This temple is dedicated to lord shiva. It is located in the Srinagar district on the hill known as Takht-e-Suleiman and it is consider as oldest shrine in the Kashmir valley. The current form of temple is rebuilt by several rulers but originally constructed by King Gopaditya. The temple is named after the great philosphere Adi Shankaracharya.

To reach Shankaracharya temple you have to climb 243 steps to the temple complex. Reaching the temple involves a scenic drive from the main city srinagar.
You can taxi or private vechicle to the base of the hill and this location is 18km away from the Srinagar International Airport. The temple is 5km from the Dal Lake.
