Jatinga
Jatinga is a small village inhabiting of only 25,000 people located in Dima Hasao district of Assam, India. Assam is a tourist place that is know across worldwide for its historical significance. There are many mystical stories in Assam and Jatinga is one the places where a unexplained mystery take place every year in during the late monsoon season.
What is Jatinga’s Bird Suicide Mystery ?
Every year during the monsoon season from September to November when the air is foggy, misty, or cloudy numerous birds of various species “commit suicide” in this place during 7pm to 10pm in the evening. Mostly the migratory birds are attracted to this phenomenon. This mysterious event makes this place one of the most creepiest place on the earth.

Disorientation by Weather: Some scientist suggest that the monsoon winds, high altitude, and fog leads to bird disorientation, leading them to fly towards lights in the village.

This is very intersting that every year this phenomenon happens on the same place which is a narrow strip of Jatinga which is 1.5 km long and 200 meters wide. Birds which are flying outside this area are unaffected, which is again a mystery. But why this phenomenon happens only in this zone ?

Lately village local people have some superstitions regarding this phenomenon. They say that it is due to some evil sprit but efforts of ornithologists and conservationists are succesful in dispersing these belief from locals. Now local people understand this and consider this as natural phenomenon of birds arrival influenced by lights from nearby houses and floadlights.
